    Uses
    • It is used to treat breast cancer.
    • It is used to treat delays in a man's growth.
    • It is used to treat low testosterone levels.
    • It is used to add testosterone to the body.

    Dosing

    How to take

    • All products:
    • Wash your hands before and after use.
    • Gel and solution:
    • Let dry before covering with clothing.
    • Wash site where being used before touching anyone else's skin.
    • Avoid fire, flames, or smoking until dry.
    • Do not put on the genitals.
    • Androderm® Patch:
    • Put patch on clean, dry, healthy skin on back, belly, thigh, or upper arm.
    • Do not bathe, shower, or swim for 3 hours after putting on.
    • AndroGel®: 1%
    • Put on clean, dry, healthy skin on the belly, shoulder, or upper arm.
    • Do not bathe, shower, or swim for 5 to 6 hours after putting on.
    • AndroGel® 1.62%; and Testim®:
    • Put on clean, dry, healthy skin on the shoulder or upper arm.
    • Do not bathe, shower, or swim for 2 hours after putting on.
    • Axiron®:
    • Put on clean, dry, healthy skin using the applicator under the arm.
    • Do not bathe, shower, or swim for 2 hours after putting on.
    • FortestaT:
    • Put on clean, dry, healthy skin on the front and inner thighs.
    • Do not bathe, shower, or swim for 2 hours after putting on.
    • Striant®:
    • Put above the incisor tooth.
    • Change the side of mouth with each dose.
    • Shot:
    • It is given as a shot into the fatty part of the skin or a muscle.

    Missed Dose

    • Use a missed dose as soon as you think about it.
    • If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your normal time.
    • Do not use 2 doses or extra doses.
    • Do not change the dose or stop this drug. Talk with the doctor.

    Storage

    • Store at room temperature.
    • Protect from light.
    • Protect patch from water. Do not store in a bathroom or kitchen.
    • Protect gel from heat.

    Safety



    Warnings

    • Do not let your skin that the gel or solution was used on touch any children's or women's skin. Cover treated part with clothes. Signs of puberty may happen in children.
    • Please read the medication guide.

    Avoid

    • If you have an allergy to testosterone or any other part of this drug.
    • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs. Make sure to tell about the allergy and what signs you had. This includes telling about rash; hives; itching; shortness of breath; wheezing; cough; swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat; or any other signs.
    • If you have any of these health problems: A large prostate gland, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, prostate cancer, or genital bleeding.
    • If you are a man and have breast cancer.
    • If you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
    • If you are breast-feeding.

    Precautions

    • The patch may have metal. Take off the patch before an MRI.
    • Have your blood pressure checked often. Talk with your doctor.
    • Have your blood work checked often. Talk with your doctor.
    • Check all drugs you are taking with your doctor. This drug may not mix well with some other drugs.
    • Do not let any other person touch the gel, solution, or the treated part of your skin.
    • If a woman or child touches the gel, she/he needs to wash the skin with soap and water.
    • Use birth control that you can trust to stop pregnancy while taking this drug.

    Side Effects

    • Enlarged breasts.
    • Headache.
    • Emotional ups and downs.
    • Flushing. Wearing layers of clothes or summer clothes and staying in cool places may help.
    • Upset stomach or throwing up. Many small meals, good mouth care, sucking hard, sugar-free candy, or chewing sugar-free gum may help.

    Contact a healthcare provider

    • If you think there was an overdose, call your local poison control center or ER right away.
    • Signs of a very bad reaction to the drug. These include wheezing; chest tightness; fever; itching; bad cough; blue skin color; seizures; or swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat.
    • Not able to eat.
    • Erection that lasts more than 4 hours.
    • Very upset stomach or throwing up.
    • Very bad swelling.
    • Not able to pass urine.
    • Very nervous and excitable.
    • Any signs from touching topical gel or solution to skin of children or women. These include pimples, forceful actions, enlarged sex organs, and changes in body hair.
    • Yellow skin or eyes.
    • Swelling or pain in the leg or arm.
    • Any rash.
    • Health problem is not better or you are feeling worse.

    General Statements

    • If you have a very bad allergy, wear an allergy ID at all times.
    • Do not share your drugs with others and do not take anyone else's drugs.
    • Keep all drugs out of the reach of children and pets.
    • Most drugs may be thrown away in household trash after mixing with coffee grounds or kitty litter and sealing in a plastic bag.

    • Keep a list of all your drugs (prescription, natural products, vitamins, OTC) with you. Give this list to your doctor.
    • Call your doctor for help with any side effects. If in the U.S., you may also call the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 or if in Canada, you may also call Health Canada's Vigilance Program at 1-866-234-2345.
    • Talk with the doctor before starting any new drug, including OTC, natural products, or vitamins.
